High School Football America
Friday night's Class AAAA battle between defending champ Tucker and Southwest DeKalb really wasnt' a battle after all. SW DeKalb took it to the champs in a 26-0 victory. Now on back-to-back weeks, the Panthers have been the 2008 champ and runner-up (Marist).
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that SW DeKalb's defense shutdown Tucker's high power running game. Tucker came in averaging 260 yards a game. Friday night, the DeKalb "D" only allowed the Tigers 95 yards on the ground.

Valdosta High School Football Coach Won't Be Back in 2010

When it comes to high school football, there may not be a more pressure packed job in America than the one in Valdosta. For the fourth time since 2002, America's winningest football program will be searching for a new head coach.
Earlier this week, Rick Tomberlin was informed that he won't be brought back for next season, although he will finish the season as the Wildcats head coach. Last weekend, Valdosta suffered a huge 57-15 loss to crosstown rival Lowdnes.
Tomberlin, who led Washington County to three state titles, is currently 19-20 with the Wildcats, which included a 1-9 record in his first season in 2006. His career record as a head coach stands at 219-100.
Today the Valdosta Daily Times takes a look at how the community and the coach are reacting to the news of Tomberlin leaving at the end of the 2009 season.

Aside from X's and O's, the Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe high school football team is now dealling with the First Amendment as it prepares for tomorrow night's road game against Ridgeland.
The Warriors are getting a lot of attention this week, but not for their 4-1 record on the field, but the and the signs the team runs through at the start of the game.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, school officials are no longer going to allow the team's cheerleaders to make banners that contain biblical verses, that have become tradition at the northwest Georgia high school since 2003. According to the report, one Fort Oglethorpe resident made a verbal complaint that the religious signs displayed by a public school violates a federal law.

In closing, I certainly don't want to insert myself into the middle of the controversy, but it seems to me that the person that complained about the sign should also be upset that the team's nickname is the Warriors. I guess the biblical sign complainer isn't offended by using a Native American as the team's mascot.
The High School Football Huddle
Aside from X's and O's, the Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe high school football team is now dealling with the First Amendment as it prepares for tomorrow night's road game against Ridgeland.
The Warriors are getting a lot of attention this week, but not for their 4-1 record on the field, but the and the signs the team runs through at the start of the game.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, school officials are no longer going to allow the team's cheerleaders to make banners that contain biblical verses, that have become tradition at the northwest Georgia high school since 2003. According to the report, one Fort Oglethorpe resident made a verbal complaint that the religious signs displayed by a public school violates a federal law.
