Georgia High School Football Scoreboard - Quarterfinals

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

Lowndes run for its fourth Georgia high school football championship in five years came to a screeching halt Friday night losing to unbeaten Grayson 17-7. Leading the way for the Rams was a tiny running back, who came-up big. 5-3, 135-pound Ean Pemberton rushed for 188-yards and both Grayson touchdowns to move the school into its first state semifinals next week. Lowndes came into the game ranked #4 by USA Today. Click here for game story.

#24 Northside vs. Camden County (11-0) Highlights Round 2 of Georgia Playoffs

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

No one said it would be easy for two-time Georgia AAAA champ Northside-Warner Robins (#24 USA Today Super 25) in 2008. The Eagles not only moved-up to the state's biggest classification after winning back-to-back AAAA titles, but the school also moved to the incredibly tough Region 1-AAAAA, which includes defending champ Lowndes.

Friday night Northside (11-1), which is ranked #5 in the state, squares-off with unbeaten Camden County (12-0), which is ranked #2 in the state, in the second round of the GHSA playoffs. It marks the first time that two top five teams have met in the second round since the state expanded the playoffs in 1990.

The Wolverines entered their first round AAAAA Georgia high school football playoff game against Walton with a record of 6-4 compared to the Raiders lofty 9-1 mark and an 8th seed. When the smoke cleared Friday night, it was Woodstock that lived to play another game as it beat the Raiders 28-7. Click here to read game story.

After twelve tough weeks of regular season football, the first round pairings are set for the 2008 Georgia high school football playoffs. Former Hoover Head Coach Continues to Make Headlines

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

I'm not sure why, but the NY Times love affair with former Hoover, Alabama head football coach Rush Propst continues. Yes, the man that was run out of Alabama for many reasons...including grade-fixing and an extramarital affair has scored another feature in America's premiere newspaper. In Wednesday's NY Times sports section, Probst, the man behind MTV's Two-A-Days while at Hoover, is profiled as he tries to turn around the Colquitt County Packers in southwest Georgia. Click here to read the story.

On a personal note to the NY Times, it seems to me that there are plenty of really great high school football stories to tell that don't involve a self-absorbed, egomaniac!! I guess I'm just as guilty as the Times for pointing out the story, but I'm curious if others are as angry as I am about this guy being promoted over thousands of other feel good stories across America.

Please feel free to comment.

Georgia High School Football Scoreboard - Week 7

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

One of the main reason's the Emanuel County Institute (6-0) is Georgia #1 team in Class A is because of it's star running back Washaun Ealey, who should become the state's top touchdown scorer very shortly. Friday night Ealey, who gained 315-yards on just 22 carries, scored four touchdowns in his team's 49-22 win against Treutlen, which left him one TD shy of the all-time record of 111 held by Matt Dunham of Pacelli Catholic. Last season Ealey set the single-season record with 58 touchdowns.

Elsewhere, the state's two nationally-ranked team's in the USA Today Super 25 won. #8 Lowndes beat county-rival Valdosta 14-7. #24 Northside-Warner Robins, which lost its first game last week to Lowndes, beat previously unbeaten Coffee 17-14 Friday night.

#11 Lowndes vs. #19 Northside...One Streak Will End Tonight

By Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

Everything is on the line Friday night in Valdosta, Georgia where defending state champs Lowndes (#11 USA Today) and Northside (#19 USA Today) square-off to decide, at least for now, who's the top Class AAAAA team in the state.

A sellout crowd of over 13,000 fans will be on hand to watch, plus a national television audience from CBS College Sports Network. Lowndes (Valdosta, GA), the defending AAAAA champ, brings a 19-game win streak into the game, while Northside (Warner Robins, GA), which moved-up to AAAAA this year after winning back-to-back titles in AAAA, is on a 35-game win streak.
